Un Mundo is more than an organization. It is a movement. It is a movement that grows with each volunteer, each collaborator, each friend. The strength of the movement comes from the many dedicated people who are willing to lend a hand to support the communities of rural Honduras. These folks tell others about our work, and they, in turn, tell others. In that way, news of our movement spreads all over the world and the Un Mundo family grows.

You want to help but you don't know how or where to start?

We realize that not everyone has the time or resources to be able to go to Honduras to volunteer. We also know that not everyone has the ability to make a large cash donation. That is why we have come up with innovative ways for you to help.

We want you to be a part of our team. Below are some ideas for how you can help spread the word about Un Mundo and make a significant impact on the lives of the poor of Honduras. If you are interested in becoming an Un Mundo Ambassador by doing one of these activities, please contact us so we can support you in your efforts. Also, we’ve got lots more ideas…if none of these catches your fancy, but you really want to help, contact us and we will work with you to come up with an innovative way for you to join the movement.

Host a House Party
Would you be willing to host an Un Mundo House Party at your home or apartment? If so, contact us and we will send you materials to pass out and display. If possible, we will send a representative of Un Mundo to give a short talk on current and planned programs in Honduras. Do not charge admission and invite as many people as you can. During the party, give a short talk about Un Mundo (with the Un Mundo representative, if we can get there) and ask everyone there to consider a gift of $10, $20, $50 or more (depending on the crowd). Pass out envelopes and ask people to give then, or to consider giving later. After the party, contact all of the guests and ask for a gift or ask them to host the next party!

Hold a Spaghetti Dinner at Your Church, Temple, or Union Hall
Same as above, but hold it at a location that has a large kitchen. Charge $10 per person and feed the masses. You can charge extra for wine, beer or dessert. Again, contact us if you would be willing to hold a spaghetti dinner and we will give you some tips on how to make your event a success.

Hold a Community Garage Sale
Clean out your garage, your attic and your book shelves. Go around to your neighbors and tell them you will take their stuff outside and sit with it all day to sell it if they donate half or all of the proceeds to Un Mundo. Ask some friends to do the same and to bake some goodies to sell to your customers. Contact us if you are interested in holding a garage sale to benefit Un Mundo.

Change for Change!
Ask 5 to 10 of your friends to save their spare change for three to six months. Save yours too. Count it at the end of the period and donate it in the name of your group. You will be surprised how much money you are able to donate.

Teach a Seminar on a Topic You Know Do you know have a special skill that you could teach to others? Knitting, organic gardening, organizing, gourmet cooking, dog grooming, web-site design, beading…anything! Charge $25-$50 per person, with a goal of 15 to 20 people and hold a class to teach your skill to others. Advertise your event in the local newspaper and in church bulletins.

Start a Pyramid Dinner or a Chain Dinner
Invite 12 people and charge $12 each. Get two people of the twelve you invited to host a dinner inviting 12 other people each at $12, and two people from each of those dinners to have 12 people at $12, and so on. Here’s how the numbers work out:

Your dinner $12 X 12............................................ $144
From your dinner $12 X (12 + 12)….................... $288
From those dinners $12 X (12 + 12 + 12 + 12)…. $576
From those dinners $12 X (12 X 8) etc.

Contact us if you are interested in starting a pyramid dinner scheme and we will supply you with some promotional materials about Un Mundo. If possible, we will also send a representative from Un Mundo to talk about our programs in Honduras.

Service Raffle
Get three friends and together donate a simple but valuable service that many people could use and sell raffle tickets for $10-$20 each. Services can include childcare for a weekend night (or two), one day of housecleaning, yard work, painting, etc. Sell the tickets to neighbors, work mates and friends. Encourage people to buy several by offering discounts for multiple purchases such as 1 for $10, 2 for $20, but 3 for $25 and 5 for $40.

Birthday or Holiday Gifts
Ask your friends to donate to Un Mundo in lieu of buying you a gift.

Help Us Find In-Kind Donations
Check out our list of needed items. Go around to your friends and neighbors with the list in hand and ask them to donate any of the items we need. For example, Un Mundo is in need of computers, office and art supplies and used cars. Contact us if you have any items to donate.
