Consolidating Democracy

Consolidating Democracy is at the heart of all we do. There are two aspects to the program.

  1. All communities we work with are trained to develop and exercise a democratic organ of internal governance through the following programs:
    • Partnering and Assessment — A series of community meetings through which Un Mundo and selected communities come to understand and trust each other, focusing on democratic representation and transparency.
    • What is Democracy? — A comparative look at different forms of democracy and democracy and other forms of government.
    • Know Your Constitution — An overview of the Honduran Constitution and its application.
    • What Are Human Rights? — An introduction to the content, governing legal bodies, and application of human rights.
  2. We provide technical, financial, and logistical assistance for projects arising from the specific needs of individual communities. This aspect focuses on action, and takes form in the following two programs:
    • El Pueblo Unido — This program briefly illustrates present and past community-generated projects that Un Mundo has facilitated with technical, economic, or logistical assistance.
    • Helping Hands — Un Mundo facilitates volunteer delegations who wish to visit Honduras on short community development trips to connect with the communities and to learn their reality.
